Understanding Your Tonnage Calculation

What is Air Bending?
This calculator uses the standard air bending formula, which is the most common and flexible bending method. It assumes the punch does not "bottom out" or "coin" the material.
The Importance of the V-Die Opening
The V-Die opening is the most critical factor. A good rule of thumb is 6x to 8x your material thickness (e.g., 8mm die for 1mm steel). Making the V-Die smaller will dramatically increase the required tonnage.
Material Factor (K-Factor)
Different materials have different tensile strengths. Stainless steel, for example, requires ~1.5x the force of mild steel, while aluminum requires ~0.5x. Our calculator automatically adjusts for this.
